Arm and safety mechanism prototype

Using Solidworks and in-house FDM capabilities, I iterated on safety mechanisms to prevent the unit's needle from becoming exposed unless the unit was placed on a bottle.

Bottle grips

Given the large variety of wine bottle diameters and lip geometry, I iterated on many clamp and clamp overmold designs to adequately constrain the device to as many geometries as possible. This grip design was rapid prototyped from a silicone-like material that coupled with a rigid rocker element.

Inert gas cartridge seal design/testing

Working with pressurized gas cartridges has inherent safety and sealing concerns. I designed and iterated on thread overmold designs that would provide a leak-free fit after the cylinder foil was punctured by the device, and ensured that materials and thread engagement were adequate to withstand the pressure loads.

Seal testing

Shown here is a prototype torque and pressure tester for cartridge sealing, thread engagement evaluation, and hand torque evaluation.

Coravin Model One

While I did not see the product's commercial release, the product has demonstrated commercial success.
